Season 1 | Episode 2

On Thursday, November 11 from 9:30am to 11am ET the second webinar in our PEI Open House series took place to explore the potential for urban economic inclusion programs to contribute to building inclusive cities. The webinar featured relevant country experiences from Djibouti and Benin from the World Bank’s Social Protection and Jobs Global Practice and Urban, Disaster Risk Management, Resilience and Land Global Practice and from BRAC, our funding and technical partner. The event was moderated by Marvi Memon, former Poverty Alleviation Minister in Pakistan and current member of the Advisory Council of PEI. How do economic inclusion programs fit within urban policy and planning frameworks? How does the urban context shape the design and delivery of economic inclusion programs, different to rural programs? This webinar gathered global and country experts on strategic thinking around the role of economic inclusion programs in meeting the urban jobs challenge, supporting COVID-19 recovery, and promoting inclusive cities. Contributing to the growing learning agenda, the event collated operational lessons from country experiences with respect to adapting design and delivery to meet the needs of the urban poor and to building effective partnerships with urban local governments and between governments and partner organizations. The event was open to the public and was simultaneously interpreted to Arabic, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
